Unmarried Widow, Mally Shore

by Dave Fitzgerald

Sweet Mally Shore
Was shining 'cross the floor,
So the fella thought that he would try his hand.
When he asked her to dance,
She said, 'You haven't got a chance,
Cos I've made a promise to another man.'

'Afore going overseas
My soldier asked of me,
"Mally, would you wait for me to come back home?"
So I'll have to answer Nay.'
And in her seat, she stayed,
And Mally spent her days dancing alone.

Sad story, told brilliantly.
