another lonely disaster

by Lauren Singer

"time to quit" she said,
as she closed the bathroom door
and hid inside the tub fully clothed.

she pulled the curtain in
and slowly shut her eyes,
bashed her head against the tile wall.

as she drifted in and out of consciousness,
and bit her tongue until the blood dripped
down her chin,
he stood outside the door and
she heard him say

"i'm worried about you."

because she hated herself so much
for giving a god damn
and because she hated him that much more
for not, the words never penetrated.

she turned on the water
in hopes that
he would let her drown.

Very intense, very sad and very powerful. After reading this, all I could say was "WOW". Great job!
