i am twenty years past due
waiting to wake up from this
amniotic slumber

someone should have told you
i am still umbilical and
as such, equally unreliable
as a time in mind you cant
forget
always
popping up at
the most inopportune moment.

perhaps i am,
after all, ready to escape
just as you are
just as we all are,
and $2,100 later and
a semester ahead
perhaps i can finally
break free and breathe.
