Moon Sijo

by Maureen Glaude

Oh, tonight’s majestic moon, your mouth’s O mirrors my shock.

Oh, I would draw you down, to his perpetual sick bed

if only I could sneak you past the nursing station.

Author's Note: my first Sijo attempt. We're learning these in poetry class now. They are a much older form than haiku and tanka, and a little different.

Fascinating style Reen. Leaves more room to expressively maneuver than a haiku. Good subject too, combining humanity and nature...the cosmos even. Cool!
