Whirlwind by Chris Sorrenti
farewell tiny seed
into the emotional soil of the world with you
and tell me
what will you become
when fully grown there?
just a ragweed...crooked and ugly?
or a mighty oak
your fruit
blossoming in the land of the maple leaf
and of your own seed
what will it bring you?
prosperity
or ruin?

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 05/19/05 at 03:46 PM I guess the answer's blowin' in the wind.
Somehow this made me think of human biology too. Well done. |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 05/20/05 at 03:46 AM 'what will it bring you???
ruin?
or prosperity???' well, these questions shall remain unanswered in all the time to come. The dna codes, the geagraphy, the life situations will determined what should be as we keep on serving the very purpose of the nature in begetting, procreating and eventually unwishingly wishing a final goodbye.

Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 05/20/05 at 12:09 PM well i'm going to guess that 24 years later the answer is just coming into bloom... i know 23 years into my life the answer is still years off... great piece chris |
Posted by Tricia Marie Miel on 05/20/05 at 02:52 PM Your poem made me think of where I am, where I'm going, and how my mom must've felt when I left home for college. Thank you for that. I'm still learning, still soaking up what life has in store for me...hopefully, when I plant my roots, something good will blossom. |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 05/21/05 at 01:18 AM Stark contrasts clarify message! An interesting observation that whatever is sown the end product is not known at the planting--whether prosperity or ruin. Philosophical and plaintive. |
Posted by Jeanne Marie Hoffman on 05/21/05 at 01:29 PM Ah, I read this just as I'm moving. I know it doesn't directly correspond to changing ones place in life, but still, I wonder where the Whirlwind will take me :) Good poem |
