Echoes

by Shonda Chrissonberry

my eyes burn
wet with loss
because I mourn for us
& all you care to acknowledge
is the blindness

blinded by a love
swore I saw this coming
tried to save myself
only to realize fate had
seduced us first

first seduction
always the most painful
in those intense, raw moments
when experience gently leaves
its mark of remembrance

remembering in vain
what came before the
sadness of this conclusion
receiving nothing but my
unstable assemblage of you

you
assembling yourself
inside of my punishment
once the object of each others desire
now our lonely echoes
simply make

my eyes burn
