A Melancholy Suicide

by Shonda Chrissonberry

As I lay awake ~
without you
it seems that tonight
melancholy thoughts have chosen
this precise moment in time
to wound me far deeper than
just the casual kiss from
Death

Blue air envelopes me ~
so damp with your memory
I nearly drown
every time I take a breath

I can’t escape you ~
my tender Ghost of regret

Your haunting embrace
possesses me with
Spirits of Antiquity

Morbid little creatures
grasping for my soul

I let them unravel me
like a split end waiting ~
waiting for a smooth release
from this oblivion

giving into lush
suicidal scissor tendencies
shredding my existence
to pieces
