Goodbye

by Jayme L Helmick

A wall between us that won't come down,
Built up by familiarity
Your back to mine
My tears unheeded
As I look back on the story of us
How we've laughed
cried
loved
fought
The uncertainties that trapped us
The faith that set us free
Now you want to give up
Forget our triumphs
and let us go
I can't make you care
I can't make you want to try
I'm tired of fighting for the both of us.
So I must say goodbye
to the stranger
in my bed.
