Veils of Truth

by Jennifer L Banks

In the silence of the night
laying on the floor
With all of my might
The tears I hold back no more
Watching you dream
the colors of your mind
in red and cream

Sweetened thoughts
of mulberry wine
some girl
a temptation,
distraction
young and fair
dancing in your mind.

I lay and wait for you
To tell me this news
Still you don’t
Your mind trips over
your tongue, amused.
I asked for honesty
as I lay here, confused.

You words are like veils
In many values of grey
Oh bittersweet truth,
Meant to keep me near
Or chase me away.

I seek to tear the veils away
To expose the truth
as she lay
To reveal what I already know
from your lips to my tender ear,
to you, I’m only a shadow.
and when the wind blows,
veils sway,
You won't even notice ,
and I'll just quietly,
slip away.

Author's Note: My muse is not beside me. I haven't had inspiration for about a month now. Nothing has flowed freely. I'm trying.
