Dreams Don't Come True (to S.H.)

by Melanie A Bennett

So it's something else now that stands in our way
That innocent being you helped create
So innocent...and yet I still wish it never was
I guess deep down I knew it all along
We met far too late in life
Nothing can change that
I am different now
Different than I was only a year ago
Though I want and yearn for completeness that I know will only come from you
I know it is an impossible dream
Dreams don't always come true
Especially the impossible
So I will say good-bye now
Long before I have to
I will leave you...as I found you
But I won't be as empty as before...
I have had the opportunity to love you
And that has filled my empty heart...
With hope...with life
And I won't forget you for that
