Adrift by Anne EngelenStaring in the distance chin on her knees
on a wooden bench in a neglected garden
where ankle-high grass like a green sea
threatens to gulp her down in misery
On her wooden lifeboat she there fluctuates
Indifferent and insensible to the future
which, unfortunately, her awaits
Not feeling the cold of the pouring rain
Absent-minded shes sustaining her pain

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 11/08/02 at 01:05 PM A vivid portrait of rejection, dejection, despair! Could be Alzheimers as well! A grave reminder of the loneliness and sense of futility there is in the world. Exceptional writing. |

Posted by Glenn Currier on 03/12/03 at 11:32 PM Both sadness and strength beautifully expressed here Lady Anne. I think the three rhyming words at the end work quite well together. Great work! |
