Butterfly

by Nicole D Gregory

Take the time to talk
Do your laundry
~ a verbal cleaning~
when youÂ’re with me
but promise me you'll
hang it dry in another
field

Butterflies were everywhere
and champagne bubbled
freely

Then we mourned stories
of lifetimes ended before
oxygen could fill such little
lungs longing to make a
difference;
and I see
the tears brimming in a
clear blue horizon ~too
much ~too often ~too
sudden~ too heartbreaking

Yet a few doors down and a
welcome friend is found in
a field where butterflies
need to be saved from the
environment ~some butterflies
need to be reminded they can
fly ~some butterflies need
to rest just a little while longer
among pretty flowers

~Papillion
Quiet now
Rest and Mend

You look too hard for the sweetest
flower when your critical
eye brings you only to bitter
honey

~Papillion
Stop now
Relax and heal

The sun will rise with a clear blue
sky and you will find
butterflies everywhere
and champagne bubbling
freely

~Papillion
Soar again
High and free

~N
