farcebook

by Dawn Davidson

how strange for them to live on the internet and believe
in it's power, of something maybe nothing

pics are the gooddays, the rest reality's stolen moment
that the hour hog rings to keep you lean

the face which never bought my attention as much as the
subtle hand pressing, foot dance, heavy and too tamed

seems so strange that someone is growing your carrots
in this weather, as you press into vanities mirror how quaint

but techno has come for the zombies the ones who ask to be
set to program, tricked into mind games, and pure hypnosis

which man the machine obeys, calls it god mentioned the
history of jesus way back when trades and crafters were respected

now people can do so little, want too on a good day
but end up like a guinea pig caged and weighted

now death doctors entertain ways to cash in not
knowing they themselves may be the illness

out of sight out of mind
it time for the laughter to sing

a farce a life, some mayhem a difficult part
of your personality has evolved into a calling

contradiction, symbols once danced in theatre
and celebration still happening in some places

told the language of the emotions, the winds
and skies, story born of hope and values

oh well, time will conquer all and sometime
all we see through and laugh or cry

farcebook induction into the don't look back
the illusion of better times and freedom

but on a high note it is all here today and
gone tomorrow, why that little phrase hung

around cause it gives evidence of sorts
that only now delivers and something new

though you may not understand or know
something in you will, and if not

another farce has evolved, enjoy it

Interesting perspective, with emphasis on the negative side of social media. Personally, as I said in my poem, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Facebook in my opinion does not add to the human experience but diminishes it. It is a poor substitute for the veritas of real honest to goodness communication and communion with life.
