Mudcracks

by Rob Littler

Once wet, muddy
sediment dries
up and contracts, straining
Into a polygonal
Interconnected
Network.

Suddenly the Earth has a lizard
Skin to shed, tessellations
Of the pseudorandomness begging into being
By the parched ground. But drought is evidence
Of what’s absent, sprouting hope
That it will
Return.
