architectural dialogue

by Lauren Singer

the tums are on
the nightstand so that when
you wake up with indigestion
you do not have to let go of
my hand to be within enough reach to
grasp for those heartburn aids because
while we were watching that documentary
on Charles and Ray Eames
we remembered that
we meant something to each other once,
and we got under the covers
and we took off our shirts,
and we drank too much whiskey
but it was just enough, in the long-run.
