The white jet trail
crosses the window pane
from corner to corner,
bisecting the blue December sky.
The top half of the glass
lies darkened
from the roof's overhang.
The bottom - sparkling
in the noon-day light.
The fumes from the travelling plane
interact with both equally
as it wanders.
In all our lives and journeys,
we reach for sun and shadow.
