topic: Cigarette Burns by Amanda L Marroncigarette burns scar the dining room table
a history of memories within its oak veins
memories etched in the hardwood
a daily reminder of the pain withheld
and the tears shed behind closed doors
a wanting of a mother's love and touch
and a father's encouragement and dependability
although receiving none
cigarette burns scar her arms
a scapegoat of a rotten life she never asked for
chaos ensues within her mind
holding on to the last bit of sanity she has left
the world she once knew, fallen to pieces
no happiness to brighten her dim existence
counting the days until she can break free
and never return
