I'm writing this to offend you #1

by Gavin M Roy

You think you’re so different
That you reject society
Only organic vegetables at Trader Joe’s

You consumer of counter-culture

So influenced by others
You’ve lost yourself to an
artistic self image
which makes you
a cliche so common
they make tv shows about you

(or at least the people you model yourself after)

Great poem, Gavin. Reminds me about a person who has no actual identity. They kinda make it up as they go along and to suit the situation at hand. On top of that, they feel their "uniqueness" (my meaning - lack thereof) is something to be worshipped by others. Sad but true. I liked this piece. I've seen so many people in this same sad state and it irks me.

Intriguing poem, commentary on our times.

OOOOOOH.... Here's a news flash - organic vegetables offend every man, woman and child. Trader Joe's - not so much (2 buck chuck!!!).

What's scary is that I actually know or know of people like this in my own community. Well stated Gavin, and worthy choice for POTD. Congrats!

This Poem Of The Day certainly seems timely to me having been fortunate enough to hear you orate this opine, as featured poet at the poetry reading in Pasadena, Monday last. I must say, it definitely strikes the mark, but it's your elocution that serves as icing on the cake. pe4ce...

I just gave up tv for the next several months, so now I'll have to go to TJ's to see these people? Your words certainly are a commentary on counter culture developing not only in SoCal, but in other areas, too. You don't have to live here to understand its growth. Your poems was a big hit at the Hill reading (especially with its host) ;-) Congratulations on POTD!
