topic: people can hate you for who you are

by Amanda L Marron

 i affected your life

you didn't affect mine

you hate me for being me

though i know no other way to be

this is who i am

i refuse to change for anyone

either accept me as i've always been

or don't accept me at all within

people can hate you for your actions

hate you for your words

but to hate you for who you are

is something i still find bizarre

some things you were born with

your gender, your sexuality,

your body and your bloodline

those things that make you just fine

other things formed as the older you grew

your spirit, your conscience,

your knowledge and your mind

all of those things that make you of unique kind

most people today are scared

of anyone who's different from they

ignorance still gloats of the past tidings

still haunt us today, hiding
