Graduation

by Amanda L Marron

The day we have all been waiting for has come

Spreading our wings

Preparing to fly

Can you believe it’s over so soon?

Friendships we have come to cherish

Loves we will always remember

All wrapped up in these past four years

Making ourselves at home at Henry Abbott

Coming in as freshman, not knowing anything

But able to pick a trade to have behind us for the future

Moving on to our shop choices sophomore year

Willing to learn everything we could

Continuing to expand our knowledge junior year

Going out on the job and constructing buildings people would actually use

Then adding the final finishing touches senior year

Getting that work-study job you always wanted or heading off to college

We have been through so much in unison

Smiles and laughter

Tears and worry

All coming together at this decisive point

Our Graduation day

Look at how far we’ve come

We survived the past 36 months

Amidst all that’s happening in the world around us

I behold the sea of blue caps and gowns

Adorning each of us on this special day

Awaiting that final moment

When we are no longer juveniles

But adults preparing to enter the world
