to be a christian?

by Gavin M Roy

What does it mean to be a christian?
So many different ways.
Belief in Christ is the definition,
But really what Christian is to say?

Methodist or Evangelical
believe in the wrong one
will you go to hell?

Yes, my Saviour died on a cross
out of love and His grace
So my soul would not be lost
Now secure in His safe place

But what if the Pontiff is right?
That I should pray to the roseary every night?
What if was what the Preacher said?
Where will I go when my body is dead?

Seems to be almost the same
As that old secular standby
the overly-intellectual game (or Unitarian)
"Every religion is right when you die"

Orthodox or Prophetical
neither of the two
say anything heretical

Christ is the common denominator
And regardless of your denomination
Your assurance is in His facilitation
And that is not a revelation

(or at least it should't be)

Author's Note: This is very forced and a work in progress. I'm going to take another stab at it when I've gotten some sleep and am more clear headed.

Very good point brought out. An age old question that will only be answered in the end. It is ironic that even among some Christians and religions there is that primal need for the "i'm/were right" and "your wrong." Maybe some people should work on their Christian attitudes more.

It's a very good question, and you have taken on a difficult subject and done well with it. I think that only individuals can answer for themselves, what religion, what belief is right for ME...and that comes from old-fashioned studying.... unfortuneately many would rather someone else give them the answers....

yes, I like and agree with your thinking up to this point. My parents were C&E Christians (Christmas and Easter). I have come to the place where I know I'm wrong somewhere, just don't know where. I believe the Bible is true and I want to have the Spirit conform me to the Bible, if that makes any sense. thanks for your (as you say) work in progress, I look forward to seeing more

This is definitely a thought-provoking piece.. I was raised in the Church (Born-again, non-denominational) and it wasn't until, I'd say, 2 yrs ago that I decided to seek Him for myself.. We can't live off of our parents' faith, we have to find it ourselves.. And what did my search result in? My parents were right all along! LoL.. I hate when that happens! :) God Bless

I have always felt that it is not what is on the outside of the building you attend, but what is on the inside of the temple you are born with that makes one a Christian. And when your heart feels God, your words and actions will show Him. Regardless of affiliation. God bless you.
