Guilt

by Dawn M Williams

Fear burns deep within your eyes
Deep beneath the layers of
Sin that you imagine covers your heart
Like silt.
From far below;
Swimming in the guilt
You surface-
For really you are drowning
Beneath the waves,
Crashing on the shore
Of your tortured mind-
A nugget of sand
Glows from within
So tiny it is almost overlooked
Yet so big and waiting to be fed
And waiting to grow,
Lies love buried beneath
The guilt lined silt.
