on red rock crossing

by Gavin M Roy

Nature crawls her way down
over rock over stone
moving with purpose

She separates one side from the other
never relenting as her swift current
serves as a reminder of her place

As the creek bends and turns
each corner tells a story
different than its brothers upsteam

Two forks divided merge with a rumble
beneath rocks majestic under a warming sun
currents swift with eddies take us where we have not gone

She reminds of those past who
young with spirit and invention lived
not on her but with her in unison

Her trees and grass reach up for the sun
leaning skyward for purpose and redemption
as we each have done

How can you not hear her story?
Even in her silence it's deafening
rich in history, never swaying, she stands her ground

When will you stop and listen?
Share with her those intimate moments
to open your heart, mind, and soul.

Author's Note: I wrote this as Michelle and I spent a relaxing vacation on our 2 year anniversary in Sedona, Arizona. The weather was incredible, with snow on the ground when we got there and the next day warm enough for shorts. Red Rock Crossing has to be one of my favorite areas in nature to just sit and relax. It's a recommended spot for anyone visiting Sedona, AZ which is an incredible place, unto itself.

Beautiful words pay high tribute to a beautiful place. This is more convincing than any travel brochure I've ever read- I'm there as soon as I can find a way. Thanks for sharing this experience with us, Gavin :)
