Maureen’s Library Bio

A busy member of our various local poetry series since 1995, (my last name, too avoid confusion, is pronounced the same as "glowed,") I also enjoy considering myself a citizen of world poetry, where in the best moments, barriers and differences ie language, accents, customs, nations, are outweighed by the beauty of a common respect for literature and the magic of creative writing and imagination. Net poetry lets our work and selves be introduced to so many in this way.

I am reticent to attempt a friends’ list in a way. This runs the risk like that of thanking someone at a benefit, and inevitably forgetting someone accidentally. I treasure the amazing support from so many friends, across the world and at home, long-lasting encouragement through change and difficulties, and their voices backing me are so rich and diversified, in many areas.

Perhaps the degree of pride in our role comes from the fact that we do have to earn the respect (as well as friendship sometimes as added gravy)of others by our work, even by our critiquing, and our resilience to never giving up. It’s not just the degree of talent that defines an artist, but the degree of persistence.

On top of my list after God, and family, and my comrades at the pen, would be the friends that are the poems and stories themselves, and even lines and words, and language. (ones I encounter of other writers, from the classical archives to the current)as well as ones I embrace myself.

Hoping to go to Italy this year, in March or spring, and to learn some Italian in the meantime, I’ve experienced a long love affair with Spanish and French also. Participating in the latin poetry endeavours in my town are also among favorite indulgences, as well as my favorite reading series, and work with peers in groups. England and California and the editor-poets (who constantly strive to help the rest of put the words out in hard copy publication, polished and in fine company, along with their own - you know who you are - two of these poet-publishers have been regulars on here, as well as my friend Que who runs Wordchimes.com. All of these have provided hugely exciting recent homes for my work. Local close friends and peers provide stimulating and inspiring growth as I hope I do for them too.

A benefit chapbook for the children’s Help Phone in which I’ve contributed is a pet project indeed.

Maureen is a member of the following groups: Christian Poets and The Tadpole Society.
