When you signed up for this by Jesse Chapman
There was more success
on the third or fourth try,
less perpetual failure, which
didn’t sit in your stomach,
curdling, months later.
There was more appreciation;
a hallmark moment must’ve stood in
for the expletive carved on the desk
at curtain call.
The plot took a decidedly majestic rise
followed by a believable fall,
and sure, the conflict was awful,
but it was soon to be resolved
in April--no crisis was supposed
that could counfound
such a beautiful arc
in March.
And the stupidity on your part,
of halfway believing the trope,
felt more like hope.
