Punchline

by Jesse Chapman

One more promise,
slick as a shank
tucked into some false
patch on your pants.
It’s a harmless prank, really:
the slow pressure it requires to pry
out some small strand
of hope on that thin little blade,
then to inch it unmovingly over
and secure an entire limb.
It’s a discretion worth loving you,
really, to saw it off slow--
or at least I still
find myself doing so,
despite the pain I’m in.

Intriguing write, Jesse. Great imagery, and clever, to boot.

Simple yet majestic. Amazing visuals and language craft here; well done!

oh my...you must know my ex-...ever the butt of his infamous wit. it's amazing how just a few well places lines can shrivel ones self esteem. excellent metaphor...very well developed!
