i've got my eye on the prize and tonight it's not you by Elizabeth Seago
It's the dissection of the way
Your eyes glaze over and your blues
Turn to more of a seafoam
When you stare into mine and
Attempt to decipher what/how
You feel for me.
You're always fidgeting around the
Issue at hand.
Something I used to adore in you,
Now I add it to the neverending list
Of incessant pet peeves I've adopted.
You scream at me.
Something about love.
Or the idea of love.
And how I fit into all of that in your mind.
I tell you to fuck off and I walk away in a huff.
"You know, you're all I've ever wanted!"
Throwing your words in my general direction
Like a dagger.
I duck.
"No. All you've ever wanted was you!
But you got bored with you.
And, well, you can't suck yourself off
Quite as well as I can."
You're cornered. You cower.
So you make sure your
hair gel stays in my pillowcase and you muss up my sheets.

I almost felt caught in that space of twilight inbetween dreaming and waking- that is really the best time of the day. Thank you, Elizabeth. |
