northbound on 95 by Rajeev RajendranI love someone and she is on a plane
flying back from Madrid.
I am on I 95 North towards JFK
and I'm trying to figure out what love is.
It's important because I've been driving
for seven hours already. And maybe it isn't
because I'm going to drive the final four regardless.
I'm finding reasons from somewhere
and words to put to those reasons
to explain to myself why I love her
for whom I'm driving maybe
four tanks of gas (at least) and specifically her
rather than someone who
is a bike downhill into Carrboro.
Love is deliberately inconvenient,
I've decided. 01/30/2007 Author's Note: writing while driving is irresponsible, dangerous, and probably illegal. sorry, society.

If only we COULD pick and choose the location of our beloved, wouldn't that be convenient? Then again, is love meant to be convenient? Great poem here, Rajeev.
