The Intersection Where We Met [Head On] by Trent KirkpatrickTo me, you are headlights
A pair of them, much too close
For fifty-five miles an hour
Peeking through the corner of my windshield.
Its too late to stop at that stop sign.
Weve never met
But our front ends soon will
In fractions of seconds that wont slow down
Like they do in the movies.
Breathe this deep, it could be over.
The impact was glorious and sinister
Set to the tune of wrenching metal
And broken glass
Like buckshot, scarring my timeline on March twenty eight
At 7:18 post meridian.
Any anger I had for you, stranger
Was lost in the catastrophe
And in the sight of you screaming and
Stumbling from your half of the wreck.
Id hold you if my arms worked right.
The panic stops only after the flashbacks do
And the flashbacks never stop.
They bend and distort my image
Like the metal orbs on hospital ceilings,
Like the uncertain mirrors in funhouses.
Stop the ride,
I want off.
